TEAGAN ATHERSTONE

Year Level: Year 11

Where are you from?
I lived in Alexandra for 9 years and moved to Melbourne for 2 years before moving to Bright about 4 ½ years ago.

What are your strengths and achievements at Bright P-12?
I am quite good at maths and science, I also love sport and this year I am doing VCE Units 1 & 2 PE.
I was awarded a scholarship for the 3 month German exchange for 2016.
In 2014 I won the Heather Stricek award for sporting excellence; in 2015 I won the Individual Female Sport Champion and a grant from the FRED Fund.
I have represented the College in many extra-curricular sporting events including volleyball, netball, swimming and in 2015 I went to state for cross country running.

What are your ambitions and what do you hope to achieve in the future?
My goal is to finish school with a good enough result to study sports science or physiotherapy.  I also plan to become an accredited mountain bike coach.
My riding goals for the next few years are to compete in the 2017 World Mountain Bike Championships in Cairns, and then to further represent Australia in mountain bike and in cyclocross. I am a member of the Victorian Junior Cross Country Ski team and hope to progress with my skiing and to compete at a higher level.

What are your interests and passions outside of school?
I love mountain bike riding, cyclocross and cross country skiing and spend a lot of my time training for these sports.
I also love helping out with Alpine Cycling Club junior mtb rides and helping more girls to enjoy mountain bike riding.
I am also on the organising committee for the Alpine Shire Youth Awards and help out with FReeZA events.

What do you love about Bright P-12?
I love all the extra-curricular sports that are offered as well as the in school sports program.
I like living really close to school and that the school is so involved in the community.  I really like that we are a P-12, it is really cool having the primary schools kids on the same campus and the transition from primary to secondary was really easy. The teachers are all really nice and the school has been really supportive and flexible allowing me to pursue my sporting goals and still study at a high level.
The German language program is great and offers such a good opportunity to travel to Germany for 4 weeks or 3 months on scholarship.

What is your favourite...

     -  Book: The Happiest Refugee, Anh Do - it is a great book, easy read and really inspirational and enjoyable.
